Abstrakt
Józef Rotblat urodził się w 1908 w Warszawie, mając 30 lat uzyskał stopień doktora fizyki na Wydziale Matematyczno-Przyrodniczym Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Od 1939 pracował na Uniwersytecie w Liverpoolu, a od 1944 w laboratorium w Los Alamos. Przyjął obywatelstwo brytyjskie w 1946 , a od 1949 był profesorem fizyki w Szpitalu św. Bartłomieja w Londynie. Był sygnatariuszem Manifestu Einsteina-Russela (1955) i współzałożycielem Konferencji Pugwash w Sprawie Nauki i Problemów Światowych. W latach 1957-1973 był Sekretarzem Generalnym Pugwash, a w latach 1988-1997 jej Prezesem. W 1995 przyznano wspólną Pokojową Nagrodę Nobla dla Konferencji Pugwash (50%) i Józefa Rotblata (50%). Zmarł w Londynie w 2005 roku.
Abstract
Józef Rotblat was born in 1908 inWarsaw, and in 1938 he received a PhDin physics fromthe Faculty of Mathematics
and Natural Sciences of the University ofWarsaw. From 1939 he worked at the University of Liverpool, and in 1944 at the Los Alamos laboratory. In 1946 he became a British citizen and from 1949 he was a professor of physics at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London.He was a signatory of the Einstein-RusselManifesto in 1955 and co-founder of the Pugwash Conference on Science and World Problems. In the years 1957-1973 he was the Secretary General of Pugwash, and in the years 1988-1997 its President. In 1995, they received the Nobel Peace Prize jointly: Pugwash (50%) and Józef Rotblat (50%). He died in London in 2005.
