The Warsaw Branch of the Polish Physical Society is a continuation of the Physical Society in Warsaw. The Physical Society in Warsaw, established at the organizational meeting on January 13, 1919, convened by Messrs. M. Grotowski, St. Kalinowski and J. Kowalski, held 9 scientific meetings and two devoted to organizational and professional matters. The Management Board of T-wa consisted of Messrs. J. Kowalski (chairman), St. Kalinowski (vice-chairman), W. Dziewulski (secretary), M. Grotowski, M. Pożaryski (treasurer). During the reporting year, the two members who left Warsaw (Prof. Kowalski and Dziewulski) were replaced by deputies: Mrs. W. Werner and Mrs. Z. Kowalczewska; the chairmanship was taken by Mr. St. Kalinowski and the secretary office of Mrs. Z. Kowalczewska.
The organizational congress of the Polish Physical Society was convened on the initiative of the Warsaw Physical Society. The invitations sent out met with a warm response, so that the Congress on April 11, 1920 gathered representatives of all Polish scientific centers: Warsaw, Krakow, Lviv, Vilnius and Poznań. After being addressed by the chairman of the Warsaw Physical Society, prof. Stanisław Kalinowski, prof. Władysław Natanson. (...) After the chairman gave a speech, the statute, developed mainly by Cracow physicists and previously discussed at meetings of physicists in individual university cities, was adopted with some changes, and the election of the Board began. Prof. Władysław Natanson (from Krakow), for the deputy chairman prof. Stanisław Kalinowski (from Warsaw); for members of the main board: prof. Czesław Białobrzeski (from Krakow), prof. Tadeusz Godlewski (from Lviv), prof. Stefan Pieńkowski (from Warsaw), prof. Mieczysław Pożaryski (from Warsaw) and prof. Marjan Grotowski (from Warsaw).
At the last meeting of the Physical Society in Warsaw, on May 5, 1920, it was unanimously decided to dissolve the existing Society and to create the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Physical Society in its place. At the same meeting, the Board of the Branch was elected, which included: Mr. W. Werner as the chairman, and as members of the Board: Messrs. Landau, Kowalczewska, Pożaryski and Pogorzelski.
